Four Quick Tips for Rocking your Engagement Portraits

With spring making its way to the Philadelphia area, wedding season will shortly follow!  But before the big day, your engagement portrait session is a great way to get to know your wedding photographer and practice your modeling skills.

What to make sure you rock your Philadelphia engagement session?  Take a peek at these three quick tips for looking your best for your engagement photos:

Head to the Salon

This one marks the top of my list because it’s one of the easiest things you can do to look and feel amazing for your engagement portraits; plus, it takes some of the stress out of getting ready on your own!

A fresh blow out and professional makeup application can give your confidence a boost and always photographs beautifully.  Want to take it up a notch?  Adding natural-looking false lashes can bring in a little glam to elevate your style.

Also, consider adding a manicure to your salon trip for a more finished look.  If you’re wearing open-toed shoes, a pedicure is another must-have.  Natural colors on the nails photograph softer and will remain timeless (think nudes, clear, or French manicures).

Don’t Wait to Shop

I know shopping for the perfect ensemble can seem like a daunting task, but it definitely doesn’t need to be a source of stress!  (Don’t worry, brides, I go into much more detail on “What to Wear” in your Hope & Stay Engagement Session Prep Guide that I’ve put together just for you!)

Ladies, give yourself ample time to shop and try clothes on!  Select an outfit (or two) that emphasizes the parts of you that you love and hides the ones you don’t love so much. Select outfits that make you feel confident from all angles since you’ll be photographed from multiple perspectives.

Your engagement session is the perfect time to dress up, so don’t be afraid to wear something formal for that “wow” factor!

Bridal jumpsuit

Skip the spray tan or fake tanners

This is a point I make for both the engagement session and the wedding day.  Ladies, spray tans do not photograph well and often appear orange in camera. This is not something can easily be corrected in post-processing, so my recommendation is to simply “skip the spray.”

Relax & Enjoy the Process

Finally, relax, trust your photographer, and enjoy the process.  Your engagement is such a short, but special season in your lives together.  Commemorating this special time with engagement portraits is so important to your story and is truly the best way to prepare for your portraits as a bride and groom!
